Blight Family Tree
In 1956, at the request of the New South Wales Government, Victor Charles Nathaniel Blight undertook an around the world business trip to acquire printing machinery for the soon to be completed Government Printing Office in Sydney.
When Victor was in England he commenced research into his English Forbearers. The results of his research were written up in a pocket sized notebook for later use when compiling and documenting. This was the genesis of a documented BLIGHT Family Tree
Victor spent countless hours researching and documenting the Blight Family Tree. He would sit on the front veranda of 20 Owen Street punchbowl, with his mother, Frances Olive Blight (nee Olsen), trying to glean small snippets of information about her life and family. Twice more he visited England, once for a period of 6 months, searching records at the registry office, Somerset House, and visiting many Graveyards and Churches, inspecting their records looking for more details of his early relatives.
When travelling to new cities another avenue of his research was to use the Telephone Directory. He would use the telephone directory to search for surnames he had previously found to be related
To him, Victor would phone these people in an effort to determine if they were related or not.
All of this research was meticulously and methodically catalogued, using different coloured paper for different strands of the family and generations. Victor’s Niece June Kay (nee Spencer) spent many hours typing the results of his research in triplicate. All told, the documentation of his research occupied several foolscap folders. There were individual folders for different strands of his forbearers. BLIGHT OLSEN DIMON
Victor continued researching his Family tree until his passing in 1988
During the 1970’s Victors younger brother Kenneth Blight and Kenneth’s younger son Tracy Blight became very interested in their heritage and the Family Tree. Over the ensuing years, Ken & Tracy undertook more research, some of which followed on from Victor’s work and some was new research using the internet to discover more family links. Whilst Victor was able to trace the Blight Heritage back as far as the 1806, Tracy has traced the family back to the 1700’s.
Tracy found the internet a wonderful asset in discovering material which Victor was not able to find through his manual searching. Tracy’s efforts has gone onwards and the Family Tree has been computerised and is available for all to see.
Beverley Wilson (nee Blight) and Warren Blight have worked with Tracy to present his and their fathers work in this BLIGHT Family Tree website.
